Doechii took home Best Rap Album at the 2025 Grammy awards, beating out J. Cole (Might Delete Later), Common & Pete Rock (The Auditorium, Vol. 1), Eminiem (The Death of Slim Shady), and Future & Metro Boomin (We Don't Trust You). She became the third Black woman in Grammys history to do so.
The rapper and Best New Artist nominee acknowledged as much in a teary but ecstatic acceptance speech as she shouted out Cardi B and Lauryn Hill, the two other Black women who precede her in winning the award. "I don't want to make this long. This category was introduced in 1989," she said. "And three women have won: Lauryn Hill, Cardi B, and Doechii."
Cardi B took home the trophy in 2019 for Invasion of Privacy, while Hill won as part of her work on The Fugees record The Score in 1997.
Cardi B presented Doechii the award and was seen beaming on the sidelines. Doechii ended her speech by speaking to "every Black girl out there. You're exactly who you need to be, so be right where you are and I am a testimony."
Doechii came into the night with three nominations: Best New Artist, Best Rap Performance, and Best Rap Album. See the full list of winners from the 2025 Grammys.
