Paris Jackson says “sugar-coated” Michael Jackson biopic contains “full-blown lies”
The pop star’s daughter claims she had “zero per cent involvement” in the upcoming film Michael.
Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris Jackson took to Instagram to criticize Michael, the upcoming biopic about her father, and refute claims that she contributed to the project, The Guardian reports.
Her statement is a response to comments made by Colman Domingo, who plays Michael Jackson’s father Joe Jackson, during a recent People interview. Domingo claimed that Paris and her brother Prince were “very much in support of” the film, and said that Paris was “nothing but lovely and warm” to him when they “chatted briefly.”
“Don’t be telling people I was ‘helpful’ on the set of a movie I had zero per cent involvement in lol that is so weird,” Paris wrote on her Instagram story.
Paris clarified that her opinions were ignored by production, and said that the film perpetuates false narratives held by some Michael Jackson fans. “I wasn’t involved at all, aside from giving feedback on the first draft and then getting the feedback that [production] was not actually going to address your notes at all,” Jackson wrote. “So I just butted out and left it alone because it’s not my project. They’re going to make whatever they’re going to make.
“A big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it. A big section of the film panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in the fantasy, and they’re gonna be happy with it.”
Paris also addressed the negative aspects of Hollywood biopics, which have surged in recent years. “It’s not real but it’s sold to you as real,” she said. “The narrative is being controlled and there’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of just full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. I don’t really like dishonesty. I spoke up. I wasn’t heard. I f—ked off. That’s it. Y’all are going to like the f—king movie. So just go watch it. Go enjoy it. Do whatever. Leave me out of it.”
Directed by Antoine Fuqua and produced by Graham King, Michael has been in the works since 2019. It was originally set to come out in April 2025 but is now slated for release on April 24, 2026. It stars Jaafar Jackson, Michael Jackson’s nephew, and also features Miles Teller, Nia Long, Kat Graham, Laura Harrier, Larenz Tate, and Derek Luke.
The movie first garnered controversy in January 2025 when an article by Puck Magazine claimed that the third act of the film was rendered “unusable” by an overlooked contract with the father of one of Jackson’s child sex accusers that bars his depiction in any film.
