Adele Flips the Bird at the Brit Awards

February 22, 2012

At last night's Brit Awards, Adele (who recently snagged six Grammys) collected trophies for Best British Female Solo Artist and Best Album of the Year. When she received Best Album, the show's host, James Corden, cut her off in anticipation of introducing closing performers, Blur. (Corden also referred to Adele as a "tranny" during the show.) Unable to properly thank the British public, Adele flipped off the entire crowd. 2012 is the year for women telling off the establishment, as M.I.A. did at this month's Super Bowl, but Adele says the gesture was not meant to offend the audience or her fans:

I flung the middle finger. That was for the suits at the Brit Awards, not my fans. I’m sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me. I was about to thank the British public for all their support but they cut me off. So thank you very much for all your support. It’s amazing, so thank you very much.

Watch her cut-short acceptance speech below.
