Summer is the time of year when most soca stars tend to rest on the laurels they collected and the countless DJ spins they racked up during the mid-winter Carnival season. This is even more true for the bigger names in the genre, who often opt to hit the road instead of the studio to ride out their already established hits. But for the restlessly creative, genre-smashing Bunji Garlin, summer is gearing up to be high season for a new sound and fresh tunes.
After quietly teasing new tracks on his Instagram page, Garlin released "Before My Glory," a legit rap freestyle that finds him recounting his gritty and reckless days as a youth in Trinidad over Major Lazer's "Lean On" beat. "Before My Glory" will appear on the forthcoming mixtape titled Mitochondria, which is being curated by Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta alum DJ Babey Drew.
