T-Pain Put His Own Spin On “Classic Man”

He really loves old cars.

You may not remember, but T-Pain jumped on the DJ Mustard train early. When Mustard's sound started to dominate the radio in 2013, it was due to a string of tracks that included YG's "My Nigga," Kid Ink's "Show Me," Ty Dolla $ign's "Paranoid," and T-Pain's "Up Down (Do This All Day)." Now the "rappa ternt sanga" has returned to that fertile template by remixing Jidenna's "Classic Man," which is related to Mustard by a few degrees of separation: to make his beat, Jidenna sampled Iggy Azalea's "Fancy," which borrowed liberally from the Mustard formula.

T-Pain dispenses with the suits and canes on his version of Jidenna's breakthrough tune. The new rendition focuses almost entirely on retro vehicles and guns: I got the Desert Eagle in the doorway/ you know that I'm from Florida babe/ I'm a classic man/ any whip from the '50s to the '90s, catch me in a classic man/ I'm in a Buick with a Chevy right behind me riding through Tallahassee, man. Vantrease and Young Cash also appear on the cheerfully nonsensical track.

T-Pain recently played a legendary 42-song set at The FADER FORT presented by Converse.
