The New York rapper is currently serving seven years in state prison after pleading guilty to weapons charges in October of 2016. Shmurda's new sentence will run concurrently to the one he is currently in jail for, meaning the rapper will not serve any additional prison time. Shmurda has been imprisoned since December 2014.

The new sentence is the result of a plea deal Shmurda and his attorneys struck in February 2017, after Shmurda was charged with "promoting prison contraband" when he was caught with a prison shank.
