RIP Baby Girl

The world lost the angel Aaliyah eight years ago today. We memorialized her in last year’s icon issue, and with an exclusive mix by DJ Caps, but no matter what her absence will be felt forever. Above is a photo from FADER 54, with her best friend Kidada Jones.

Happy Birthday, Baby Girl.

To Aaliyah on her born day. Rest in Peace.

Live: Dri, Free Blood And Blaqstarr At The FADER 54 Release Party

We piled in a grip of Bass Ale and head up to the tippy top of Greenpoint, Brooklyn this past Wednesday to celebrate the release of our Aaliyah icon issue. Video: We Were On 106 & Park

It took us a minute to get this thing off the Tivo (buried under episodes of The Paper), but we finally lifted the brief segment from BET’s 106 & Park when they talked about our Aaliyah issue. Exclusive Freeload: Caps, Aaliyah U R Missed Mix, Pts 1 & 2

Ideally by now FADER 54—our annual icon issue commemorating the baby-goddess Ms. Aaliyah Dana Haughton, may she rest in peace—has set hot fire to your mag rack or your desktop. But, because we can’t stop the music like Dream and Rih, FADER familia (and Aaliyah issue contributor) DJ the Honorable Caps sent us an exclusive mix celebrating the music, life and love of Aaliyah. Caps is a lifelong and very thorough fan, hence “U R Missed” is an almost-but-not-quite-chronological spirit guide to every innovative, gentle, futuristic, relate-able note—and a comprehensive homage to her collaborations with Steve “Static Major” Garrett (RIP), Missy Elliott, Kellz, Timbo. We miss you, Baby Girl.
