On The Street: The Trashicist
- story Samantha Smikle
Serving up asymmetry with Addams Family-meets-Apollonia whimsy, Elizabeth from The Trashicist could have walked straight off the Rad Hourani spring 2010 runway, just steps away from where we found her. A self-confessed sister of weirdness, she lists pessimism as her occupation (taxidermy and formaldehyde are apparently some of her more jolly interests). According to Elizabeth’s blog, Cassie commissioned her to design some of those signature hacked-up dresses for her birthday party, which might explain the shaved hairdo and moody look she’s been going for recently. Save for the Gareth Pugh fall ‘09 gravity-defying wedges, her outfit is entirely DIY which makes us feel a Crafternoon coming on…
Cassie, “Stamina” MP3
- story Matthew Schnipper
Better than “Let’s Get Crazy“, the last released track from her upcoming Electro Love, “Stamina” is still not the bone dry creepy of “Me & U.” Darkchild supposedly produced this, and the beat is heavy, but calling this a serious jam is kind of like calling a Dachshund a race horse because they are both brown and have four legs. But she does say If you ask me/ I’m gonna let you come in Miss Cassie which gets some serious points for being so plainly crass in a song 12-year-olds are probably going to learn all the words to.

Ryan Leslie, “You’re Not My Girl” MP3
R Les channels early Mike Jack on this Off The Wall-referencing memo to his sidepiece that she can be shady and cheat on her man, but shouldn’t expect him to commit. Insert Bossip.com Puff/Cassie/R-Les love triangle speculation post here. It’s actually rather uncanny how closely he’s adhering to the Jackson blueprint (holler at Timberlake), a slight turn to classicism from his normal glossy future-funk, but then he also thinks it is his birthright to carry the torch. Too soon to tell (needs more Margiela, dance classes), but this song is a step in the right direction.

Cassie f. Akon, “Let’s Get Crazy” MP3
- story Matthew Schnipper
Schnipper was playing this from his computer sneakers when Felipe asked if it was the new Britney Spears single. Which is pretty harsh, no offense to Brit or Cass. Download “Crazy Tonight” below and check their iChat rundown of the song from Cassie’s upcoming album Electro Love after the jump.

Freeload: Cassie f. Lil Wayne, “Official Girl” CFCF Remix + Mixtape
- story THE FADER
At last year’s SXSW, somewhere between screaming like teenage girls when The Tough Alliance came on stage and our twentieth trip to the make your own Bloody Mary station, Acéphale label founder Patrik North slipped us a CD-R of these jammers from Montreal’s CFCF. Since then, CFCF has popped up around the internet with remixes for everyone from Apache Beat to this one of Cassie’s “Official Girl,” where he takes the robotic detachment of the original and transforms it into a song full of warm sci-fi synth ripples that conveniently emphasize the ultra-creepiness of Wayne’s verse. Also, over at Discobelle, CFCF put together a mix of some of his favorite songs of the last couple years. Impressive, considering we have a hard enough time picking our favorite songs of the last two weeks.

Fabolous paired with perpetual underdogs Ryan Leslie and Cassie over eccentric and breezy future-soul is not something we normally would find ourselves actually asking for, but it works here. Fab namechecks a lot of celebrities in like 30 seconds, including Amy Winehouse, Kevin Federline, Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love, Himself and Lindsey Lohan. Take that Game! Also, above is a picture of Fabolous and Tom from MySpace (in a Dim Mak t-shirt over a white hoodie?) and we’re not even sure who’s more famous at this point, but it’s probably Tom and that is a really weird feeling.

Okay Ryan Leslie. We see you. Making the space jams for the couchhumpers. We also see you dancing to this song in our mind’s eye, twitching and popping to a beat that is not this song’s. And we love it. We see you too Cassie. Doing your thing. And Glenn. You devil. Don’t let the flash slow your eye game.
