NYC: Dam-Funk Comes to the FADER Bowl
- story THE FADER
Tomorrow, Tuesday October 27th, our cover star, West Coast boogie maven, Dam-Funk comes east to celebrate the release of his impossibly funky new album Toeachizown. We’ve invited him—along with like minded bumpers Snack n Cmish, Duane Harriot and Master Khan and Cubic Zirconia—to inaugurate the first FADER new monthly party at the extraordinary new, massive Brooklyn Bowl. This is both stellar venue perfect for a lot of furious jamming and a real live bowling alley, so make sure to bring both your dancing and your bowling shoes. We’ll be doing both at the same time. While playing air keytar. Come through! No RSVP necessary, just a positive mental attitude (Dam-Funk made us say that).

Kid Cudi, “Make Her Say (Cubic Zirconia RMX)” MP3
It’s really more of a cover, but after waking up to our clock radio alarm playing “Make Her Say” every single morning at 7:42 on the dot for the past 84 days straight (thanks Hot97), Cubic Zirconia’s ditching of the original is a relief. Their ominous synth refix gets at the darker side of Gaga—the descending, sparse electro is a good companion piece to her scary red lace death shroud from the other night. But, thankfully, vocalist Tiombe Lockhart only hints at the crazy-making melody of the “Poker Face” sample, and transforms Cudi’s juvie BJ fantasy into a sarcastic parroting of the Kid’s retardo chorus, like “Oh yeah sure, I’ll do whatever you want dude. In yo dreams!” Which makes it rather feminist, and feels like a reclaiming of all the AM minutes we’ve been terrorized by Gaggy’s vaudevillian “uh oh”s.

NYC: Win Tickets to Cubic Zirconia’s EP Release Party
- story THE FADER
People! East Village/Brooklyn electrofunk sweethearts Cubic Zirconia are having a mega release party for the Fuck Work EP, which drops today (you can freeload the Dances with White Girls remix below). The party is at Santos on July 2nd (a Thursday, but “no one has jobs” so they say) and also features a host of rad dudes to help them celebrate: DJ sets by Dam-Funk, DJ Assault, Kool Hersh and Mike 2600 (he did the flyer above, check out the full image after the jump), plus live performances with Head Automatica and Chico Mann. You totally wanna win tickets, and you’re in luck because they’re giving away two pair to the people with the WORST jobs and/or job experiences, which they will also post on their blog, which will in turn be awesome. Send your entries to cubiczirconiaband@gmail.com and good luck!

Video Premiere: Cubic Zirconia “Fuck Work” + Dam-Funk Remix
- story THE FADER
As far as supergroups go, we’re not really that about it (megalomaniacs rarely work well together), but we’ve been itching to hear Cubic Zirconia’s new stuff for months. The power quartet that is vocalist Tiombe Lockhart, Nick Hook (of Drop the Lime band), Todd Weinstock (ex-Glassjaw!) and Daud Sturdivant (empath, every band needs one) granted our wishes over the weekend while we were BBQing by dropping this little video heatrock on us. To amp the awesome, they also offered a stream of “Fuck Work”’s killer Dam-Funk remix, coming from their EP out June 22. We sense a summer mantra…

NYC: A Bunch Of Random FADER Artists Decide To Do A Show Together
- story THE FADER
Want to see a whole bunch of FADER artists hanging out under one roof? Tonight at Webster Hall the most motley crew ever will convene in the name of Ultimate Jams. Running down the list, there are DJ sets from Michna (F56), Wajeed (F28), Daryl Palumbo (F38) as well as the live debut of Cubic Zirconia (aka Todd Weinstock, Nick Hook and F38 Gen-Fer Tiombe Lockhart). We predict a full night of good times as well as a potential Glassjaw reunion. No just kidding, that would be weird. We’re serious about the good times though.
