Video: Gucci Mane f. Usher, “Spotlight”
- story Peter Macia
People (us and everyone else) have been wondering why anyone in his or her right mind would assemble this song, let alone make it the lead single for Gucci’s new album. BUT, having now watched this video twice through, it is clearly just a means to this hilarious visual end. It’s like, look how not bummed Gucci is when Eddie Murphy’s daughter busts him in the club partying with Nicki Minaj. Look how not bummed Gucci is when he’s dancing with Usher. Look how extremely not bummed Gucci is wearing a chain that is a claw from one of those stupid toy vending machines that are impossible. Gucci is so not bummed with all of it that we’re just going to call him Doctor Not Bummed from now on. Paging Doctor Not Bummed, there is a record label hemorrhaging money, please report to the ATM stat.
The Game f. Gucci Mane & Timbaland, “Krazy” MP3
- story Peter Macia
Never judge a street single by its title because what looks like a misguided and mistimed attempt by The Game to both hit radio (Tim) and the zeitgeist (Radric) in advance of his new album might actually work out. Tim’s beat is about as far from the trance-pop he (or Danja) has been riding since “My Love,” Tim actually spits a decent verse and the whole thing kind of just sounds like a Gucci song since Game does his best impression over the course of his three verses. BURRR.

The thought of Wayne going to jail for eight months on gun charges sometime soon is ridiculous, mostly because two of rap’s living legends will be in the clink for the same thing at the same time. We’re not saying these dudes should get a pass because they’re really wealthy celebrities and need to be able to defend themselves, but if we were really wealthy celebrities we would probably consider owning a gun to protect our millions more than we do to protect our scratched up iPhones. Anyway, being locked up certainly isn’t going to slow Wayne down as he’s definitely already got a bunch of material and plans for two albums by December, the upcoming No Ceilings mixtape from which these songs come, plus whatever else he decides to record before his sentencing in February. Best of luck to him either way. Enjoy Wayne’s take on Gucci and FLY and let us know in the comments what you think about Wayne’s case.

Gucci Mane Empties His Hard Drive On To The Internet
- story Felipe Delerme
There’s a popular saying in sports that claims, “hard work beats talent when talent doesn’t work hard.” The part you never hear, however, is that when talent does work hard, everybody’s fucked. This past Saturday, October 17th (10/17), at 10:17pm, in a move of unprecedented internet generosity, 1017 Brick Squad’s Gucci Mane attempted to explain his now months-long hiatus with three whole mixtapes of original music. To think that all this time he was just locked in the studio amassing enough material for three street albums. If you’re like us and just getting around to downloading these after a long weekend of not being on the computer, then you’ve got your work cut out for you. But if you were actually dialed in Saturday night, by now you surely have some idea of which one is paramount and should feel free to leave the answer in the comments.

Big Boi f. Gucci Mane, “Shine Blockas” MP3
- story Felipe Delerme
See, it’s shit like this that makes us not care about Andre 3000 ever rapping again [Ed. We definitely still care about Andre 3000 rapping.] And we could talk about how much we wanted this Big Boi album, but it’s pretty apparent our voices are falling on deaf ears. On this track, Gucci in particular is in rare form and not just cause he’s rapping over sped up Teddy P. instead of Zaytoven’s usual twankle and glisten. These are the type of flows that render already dubious “hottest rapper” lists completely irrelevant.

“Get Up In Your Heart” might rival “Mind Sex” as far as songs that are meant to be romantic but end up being weird and awkward. On this one, all the right pieces are in place: a brief and tight verse from Gucci, a Bangladesh beat that takes baby steps away from “A Milli,” and Sean Garrett singing about always wearing wife beaters, which actually might not be a lie at all.

Gucci was MIA for the tail end of summer, but it looks like he’s getting ready to make the official push for his new album The State Vs. Radric Davis with this everybody gone wild video for “Wasted,” which we posted the OJ remix of back in August. The only thing it leaves us wondering is whether the “alcohol” these “partiers” were chugging is “actual alcohol” or “pool water.” (via Traps N Trunks)
Salem Remix Gucci Mane

More of a perfect fit than you’d initially believe, it seems like Salem took a cue from Gucci Mane’s ridiculously creepy “Haunted House,” grabbed whatever acapellas they could find—including Gucci’s Jeezy diss “Round One”—and created entirely new songs around Gucci’s verses. There’ll probably be some talk about how this is just another step in the supposed ironic love of Gucci Mane, but from where we’re standing, these remixes could sit comfortably alongside plenty of Gucci’s original work.

Shawty Lo f. Ludacris, Gucci Mane & The-Dream, “Atlanta, GA” MP3
- story Peter Macia
Atlanta’s had so many solid dedications (+ another million) to its awesomeness that seeing this lineup and having it not be as good as it should’ve been is even tougher than it would’ve been for say, New York. Big Apple rappers make bad songs about this town all the time, but these guys ostensibly represent the top echelon of Atlantans not in the Dungeon Family or locked up and not one of them really shows up. Even Gucci and The-Dream, who lately can fart on the mic and get the club poppin’, contribute throwaways. Oh well, at least they still have some of the finest gentelmen’s clubs in the country.

Mario f. Gucci Mane & Nicki Minaj, “Break Up” Remix MP3
- story Sam Hockley-Smith
- photo David Walter Banks (F60)
If you haven’t heard Mario, Gucci Mane and Sean Garrett’s completely bonkers “Break Up,” produced by Bangladesh, then you are probably not as excited as we are that the remix features an extra helium-voiced Nicki Minaj calling herself the bride of Chucky, a surprisingly accurate statement considering she sounds pretty close to Jennifer Tilly on this song. If it were up to us, we’d just loop the part where Gucci goes Girls are like buses/ Miss one, next 15 one coming right before the bass drops.
