Video: Ellie Goulding, “Under the Sheets”

Ellie Goulding is a proper Brit, so her forthcoming release on Neon Gold is full of proper Brit things: beats by Burial, production by Mark Ronson and some guest spots by our mans Theophilus London. “Under the Sheets” is her own theme, though, and its breathlessness is still endearingly unpretentious, kinda like the fact that she’s wearing a real regular hoodie and glitter at the same time in this video. Premiere: Chauffeur (Mark Ronson, Sam Sparro & Theophilus London), “Soles of Fire” MP3

The semi-secretive super group known as Chauffeur came through The Levi’s®/FADER Fort NYC last Saturday looking like The Specials, all done up in tailored suits and sharp collars and ready to pump out some mellow dance music. Due to flight schedules and the fact that they have but one song, however, they only played for like eight minutes. What an eight minutes though! Sheila E cover HELLOOOO. The one song that is theirs, it turns out, is a special ditty cooked up for Gucci’s Icon-Temporary pop-up stores as they unveil the boat-sneaker designed by Mr Ronson himself, so prepare to feel like spending a lot of money as you listen to this. Ronson has that kind of mind power.

Premiere: Almost Allison, “Tide Comes In” MP3

A couple weeks ago Mark Ronson Yousendedit this lovely summer guitar jam to us with little to no information. After a bit of investigative journalism, we turned up the following facts: Almost Allison formed for a school project that just happened to turn out totally awesome. They have several songs and have played a few shows. The singer, Eliza Callahan, has a magic amount of control over her scratchy-sweet voice, particularly the little warble that turns up at the end of every phrase. She is also 14 years old and a movie actor with a real-life IMDB page, so if her music career doesn’t pan out, she’s already got a fallback plan. Smart moves! We have a feeling, though, she’s probably gonna be good on the band tip, based on the amount of times we’ve listened to “Tide Comes In” on repeat.

Ellie Goulding, “Under the Sheets” MP3

A couple months ago Mark Ronson hosted Ellie Goulding on Authentic Shit, his show on East Village Radio which is slotted right after ours. Already fans of her sweet, quavering voice from Jakwob’s remix of her lilting “Starry Eyed,” we stuck around to watch her strum an acoustic in the tiny studio to an audience of four. There was magic in her voice crackles, and if you doubt, you can stream her performance here for proof. On the gorgeous new track “Under the Sheets,” her glorious warble is elevated to anthemic heartbreak status. Next time we get dumped and subsequently have emotionally charged ex sex we will probably play this on repeat and think about all our past loves super melancholy-like.

Mark Ronson Designs Sneaks for Gucci

Yesterday WWD broke the Mark Ronson x Gucci story, running this proud picture of our boy cuddled up to his two limited-edition sneaker designs. The kicks will not be available until late October, when Gucci will be opening up a bunch of temporary sneaker stores around the world, so there’s still about 78 shopping days left to save up the $500-600 you will need to take these babies home. It doesn’t take more than a split second to figure out that those navy joints will work better than the adventurer’s pouffy high-bred with Ronson’s wardrobe of suave Mad Men-ish suiting—especially when it comes to flashing a little leg on those long Caribbean yachting vacays.

World Premiere Freeload: Nickel Eye f. Wale, “Brandy of the Damned (Ronson Remix)”

Ronson played this a couple weeks ago on his EVR show just as we were leaving ours and we had to pull a heel pivot to ask him what it was. As he told us then and we tell you now, it’s his remix of one of our favorite songs on Nikolai Fraiture’s Nickel Eye album, mellowed even further by some gentle hornery, shuffling snares and an almost whispered verse from Wale. If we know Ronson like we think we do, this was probably recorded in a sunken living room in front of a fireplace surrounded by models wrapped in fur drinking hot buttered rum while Nikolai stared out of the panoramic glass walls wondering when he’d get sick of being blessed (never) and Wale spit rhymes into a mic made out of frozen champagne. Or they just emailed each other. Get it here or get it nowhere!

Video: Wiley f. Mark Ronson & Daniel Merriweather, “Cash In My Pocket” Trailer

We never usually post trailers for music videos because the idea of a minute long preview of a three minute long video is too absurd to even think about, but this clip of the clip for the first single off Wiley’s new album See Clear Now (Semtex has the 3-D album cover) is too good to ignore. The song was co-produced by Wiley and Mark Ronson and the video features current British PM Gordon Brown… sort of.

Video: Kaiser Chiefs, “Never Miss A Beat” (prod Mark Ronson)

Ever since we heard Mark Ronson would be producing some bona fide rock ‘n’ roll in the form of the new Kaiser Chiefs album, we’ve been bugging him about hearing some of the new songs. Eventually, he caved and played us a few. “Never Miss A Beat” was one of them, and, despite our general indifference toward the band, we found it pretty darn catchy. How much of that is due to Ronson? We’ll go with 90% because we like the guy, but it was probably closer to 70-75%. Either way, the video for “Never Miss A Beat” just hit the internet courtesy of director Goodtimes and Draw Pictures, and the band also recently posted the Yuksek remix of the single on their MySpace. The album from whence all this spawned, Off With Their Heads will be out in October and was entirely co-produced by Ronson and Britpop producer of the moment Eliot James.

Video: Wale in LA

Current TV viewer Danny Lee recently produced this video with one of our favorite dudes in the music industry, as you well know by now, Wale, he of the big shit Interscope deal with our other favorite dude in the music industry Mark Ronson. Danny followed Wale around LA’s notable streetwear shops while he tried on sunglasses and talked about giving away free mixtapes made with DUN DUN DUN Nick Catchdubs. Wale also breaks down go-go again (”how deaf people would make music”) and gives a little sneekpeek of himself rapping off a Sidekick. Watch it after the jump or over on Current.

What’s With Wale Rapping So Good?

We mean, he’s a rapper, but he’s also a guy. What is the deal? And now imagine that farty Seinfeld song. One of our favorite dudes in the universe has a new mixtape coming out soon called The mixtape about nothing, and his name’s Wale, and it totally references Seinfeld which made us go deep into Seinfeld YouTubes BUT ANYWAY. As a teaser we’re posting Wale’s “Chicago Falcon” remix (produced by Mark Ronson and DJ Eli) in which he raps about Seinfeld. Also go see Bee Movie. Shit is fire.
