The Game f. Gucci Mane & Timbaland, “Krazy” MP3

Never judge a street single by its title because what looks like a misguided and mistimed attempt by The Game to both hit radio (Tim) and the zeitgeist (Radric) in advance of his new album might actually work out. Tim’s beat is about as far from the trance-pop he (or Danja) has been riding since “My Love,” Tim actually spits a decent verse and the whole thing kind of just sounds like a Gucci song since Game does his best impression over the course of his three verses. BURRR.

Timbaland f. Drake, “Say Something” MP3

If only he were a few years older, Drake could have been Magoo. Imagine that dude on “Indian Flute”! Ain’t nothing smoother than a Timbaland beat circa 2003. Meeting Drake during his Southeast Asian phase would not have been a bad look for Tim or anyone else for that matter. “Say Something,” located thoroughly within the making beats with video games period still knocks, just in the way that sounds like they both should be guesting on Entourage. Now I’m at the 40/40 getting bitches tipsy Drake says, not even bragging, just saying. Yeah, Turtle would love this.

Those Jay-Z Timbaland Songs Could’ve Been Worse

And by could’ve been we mean they actually were worse, as evidenced by this non-Blueprint 3 song produced by Timbaland. Next to “Ghetto Techno,” the other leaked BP3 Tim tracks—”Venus Vs Mars,” “Reminder” and “Off That”—sound like the lord himself rewrote “Planet Rock,” and “D.O.A.” and “Run This Town” actually deliver Penelope Cruz to your doorstep covered in honey with $100 bills stuck where necessary to keep her street legal (Javier Bardem for the ladies). But seriously, one of the goofiest threads on the internet is talking shit about Jay. These songs may not be good, but some of the other ones will be and his status as one of the best ever won’t be tarnished, just like when Brett Favre throws 9,000 interceptions this year and one sweet touchdown that reminds everyone how ridiculous he used to be.

Jay-Z f. Drake, “Off That” MP3

We’ve been marinating on this one for a day or so and still can’t figure out why Jay would bother putting Drake’s name on it when all he does is hide in the hook and do a weird little rah-rah at the end, but it’s probably a good sign for Drizzy if his name alone carries that much weight already. Can’t say as much for the production which actually sounds almost identical to the music they played at the planetarium when we went there on a 4th grade field trip. Also, for the record, we have been off everything on this song forever because we couldn’t afford it in the first place.

On another note, Baby also dropped a song this weekend, actually featuring Drake, and incidentally it’s the verse quoted at the beginning of our Drake cover story, the verse Wayne rapped at the VMAs that let the world know Drake was major.

Freeload: Chris Cornell f. Timbaland, “Part of Me (Brick Bandits House Remix)”

The pairing of Mr. Soundgarden and Jersey club massive Brick Bandits was a union our neighborhood psychic totally forgot to tell us about. But upon listening to their collective handiwork, we had a revelation. Chris Cornell: epitome of soulful house vocalist. Why did no one think of this before? His effusive delivery is a house no-brainer! He can imply inner suffering with the flick of the tongue or a guttural wail! We would now like to dress him up in a little bicyclist hat, some Doc Martens, hot pants and a t-shirt by Boy London in size medium. Hit up Mad Decent for Brick Bandits’s club and techno remixes of the aforementioned song.

Video: Keri Hilson f. Timbaland, “Return the Favor”

It took a minute, but FADER Number 51, our Now Issue from earlier this year featuring Santogold and Keri Hilson on the covers, is coming to fruition. Santi’s obviously had a pretty good year, and now Hilson is jamming hard in the 4th quarter, following up the physically fit “Energy” video with this one, which has extended Timbaland-in-a-La-Z-Boy segments. HOTTTT.

Freeload: Izza Kizza f. Missy Elliot, “Walk the Dawg”

Here’s how the story of us and Izza Kizza goes: Someone came into the office and played us his music and we were like HOLY SHIT this dude raps like Timbaland sounds! He’s like a male Missy. Or maybe a rap R Kelly. He clearly does not care what we think makes sense or is cool, e.g. dude says I want my babyback babyback babyback ribs in this song and it sounds awesome. So then we featured him in the “House That Tim Built” feature in the current issue of the magazine, and then he tore down his first live performance ever at that issue’s release party. And now we have his first single, featuring Lady Missdemeanor, and we’re back at HOLY SHIT! See how that works? Get it below. PS- Dude’s MySpace is incredible.

Thanks Internet

When we hit the OkayPlayer boards to check in on the feedback (?uest we see you! We don’t even remember covering TV On The Radio, but if you say it then it must be true. Play on, playa!), we stumbled upon something of more lasting interest. That’s right, it’s “Big White Spaceship” from Surrounded By Idiots (SBI), the much talked-about collaboration between Virginia Beach mega-producers/ Jay-Z brodogs Pharrell and Timbaland.
