Young Jeezy, “Trap Or Die 2″ (prod by Zaytoven) MP3
- story Felipe Delerme
- photo Jason Nocito (F40)
While artists’ beefs don’t usually have anything at all to do with producers, it’s still pretty weird seeing Young Jeezy’s name attached to Zaytoven, the man who’s production excess powered the meteoric rise of Jeezy’s old, and somehow current nemesis, Gucci Mane. Zaytoven, though, has long been the go-to producer for both aspiring and established trap stars alike, and more recently, floundering pop icons. So while Gucci is off chasing TRL dragons with Polow Da Don, Jeezy is back in the trap, or at least trapped in the studio with one of the most adept producers to create a sequel to the song that epitomized his platform.

Young Jeezy, “I Got This (Don’t Worry)” MP3
- story Matthew Schnipper
- photo Jason Nocito (F63)
A couple years ago Young Jeezy was in a brief photo essay in Blender about artists wearing what they would in their regular situations. Jeezy was sitting on a fire hydrant wearing Levi’s. There was not a lot of text, but what it essentially said was “Why would I wear anything else? I’m a dude who has to take care of stuff. Things need to get done, I do them.” Significantly less flashy than I’m a business maaaan. And it’s that salt-of-the-earth honesty and ruggedness that shines through in the best of Jeezy. With this track, supposedly from Thug Motivation 103, he’s leaning heavily on the soulful strings end of dramatic production. Not quite back to the Curtis Mayfield genius of his Cannon-produced “Go Crazy,” which is probably the most perfect song in the history of recorded music—or whatever—but this sidesteps the timpani thunderbolts for something more along the lines of his Billy Paul-sampling economy paean “Circulate” from The Recession, a song that unfortunately was tied heavily to Belvedere vodka, kind of killing its cred. But it is an unheralded beast. “I Got This” isn’t as exuberant as either track—sounds like Jeezy maybe recorded this sitting down and satisfied, not up on his feet belting obscenities, celebrations and moans. But, you know, JFK on a boat chilling with some sunglasses is as good as “Ich bin ein Berliner” JFK. Different shit different day, not mad.

E-40 f. Young Jeezy & B-Legit, “Get Money”
- story Felipe Delerme
Revenue Retrievin’? Can we go ahead and give E-40 that award for best career album titles? Now we’ve made no secret of our 40 Water stannery in the past, but this kind of consistency needs to be acknowledged. And also, the man changed the English language! For the better or the worse is debatable, but what isn’t is his ability to run with both O.G.’s, like B-Legit, as well as Young Jeezys, and make it all cohesive, even over a strangely Miami circa 2007 beat.

J. Futuristic f. Young Jeezy & Shawty Lo, “1st Name, Last Name” Remix MP3
- story Felipe Delerme
We spoke briefly about J. Futuristic, (and his affinity for barbecued ribs) in our Young Dro feature from FADER 62. Back then he was still going by J. Money, which he’s since changed to J. Futuristic because, “too many people were calling themself J. Money.” Uh, yeah. Either way, “1st Name, Last Name” was kind of a jam this past spring and accordingly, Jeezy and Shawty Lo have jumped on, certifying the young trapper in the same way everyone else did for Shawty Lo back when “Dey Know” dropped, proving once again that Atlanta is really just a huge musical village. Watch the Mr. Boomtown-directed video for the original “1st Name, Last Name” above and grab the remix below.

Video: Lil Boosie f. Young Jeezy & Webbie, “Better Believe It”
- story Matthew Schnipper
There is no better dramatic setting for this video than a frustrated arrest. Jeezy is never more anxiously calculating than pacing in a wifebeater in jail. Questioned in a dingy room, Boosie looks like a kid on Scared Straight. Only Webbie gets it supernatural with the fox for a desk officer at the police station. But he doesn’t even get to kick it to her—she’s on the phone, ignores him. Even the cop in a light tan polo from JC Penney looks right, dude in over his head. Getting arrested is perfect for a video—mundane, wrongly perpetrated, absurd. Maybe Henry Louis-Gates wrote the treatment.
Video: Birdman f. Lil Wayne, Rick Ross + Young Jeezy, “Always Strapped” Remix
- story THE FADER
Yesterday we lamented the lack of Jeezy’s “Always Strapped” freestyle on the remix of said song, and what do you know! Either Baby is refreshing The FADER every 15 seconds and used his considerable wealth to shoot a last minute video, or he knew that shit was just undeniable.
Freeload: Young Jeezy, Trappin’ Aint Dead Mixtape
- story THE FADER
Chances are most of you have already downloaded and twittered about every song on here, but on the off chance that hasn’t happened, here’s the tape. It’s a dense one in a way that only Jeezy can pull off. Beats still larger than life, mid-tempo flow, not too many guests. It’s like getting punched in the face over and over. Had this come out not too long ago—when everyone was making beats that were supposed to sound like Dracula jamming on a 45,000 foot tall organ—we might have had a hard time getting through it. But then again, it’s Jeezy, and no one does larger than life better than him.

Lil Boosie f. Young Jeezy and Lil Webbie, “Better Believe It” MP3
- story THE FADER
Jeezy starts his verse, “Mixtape after mixtape and the next thing you know I was running the South.” We’re up north, but still, that seems like a simplification. Wouldn’t Boosie be more in charge if that were the case? Miss Info is doling out “Better Believe It,” the first single from Lil Boosie’s long coming Superbad, he’s got some “Soul Survivor” shit happening. He sounds like an angry teenager to Webbie’s drunk uncle.

Young Jeezy, “Dead Or Alive” MP3
- story THE FADER
This is from Jeezy’s upcoming Trappin’ Ain’t Dead mixtape, so you’re only getting a two minute track with fast fade out but unless it’s surrounded by bullshit, “Dead Or Alive” just put said mixtape at the top of our list of albums we will blast in that car we don’t own.

Video: Kanye West f. Young Jeezy, “Amazing”
- story THE FADER
Last night’s episode of 106 & Park, where this video debuted, was pretty much an all Kanye episode. It turns out seeing that many Kanye videos in one small period of time shows us that he really likes that jean jacket, and that this video for “Amazing” was a pretty awesome excuse for Kanye and Jeezy to go hang out on an island for awhile.
