Not even Donald Glover could convince SZA that “Love Galore” was a banger
The singer says she had trouble accepting the quality of her single, despite a million copies sold.
SZA is open about her struggles with self-confidence in the singer's new FADER cover story. But the singer also revealed a friend who tried to gas her up after her Ctrl single "Love Galore" was certified platinum: Donald Glover. “I think when ‘Love Galore’ went platinum, Donald [Glover] texted me like, ‘Do you still think it sucks?’ And I was like, ‘I dunno.’”
Ctrl was released after a two-year delay, when SZA's label Top Dawg Entertainment confiscated her hard drive of songs she said she kept changed. But when Ctrl became a critical and commercial success, she told The FADER she was forced to reevaluate how she felt. “I didn’t even fuck with my own album, so I was so confused and almost, like, angry that everyone fucked with it so much,” she said. “It meant everything I felt about myself was wrong. And it was just like, If that’s not the truth, then what is the truth?”
