It is also reported that Grande's new single is also the most-streamed female artist in a 24-hour period. "thank u, next"'s 9.6m streams replaced Taylor Swift's 2017 record of 9.1 million streams of 2017 single "Look What You Made Me Do."

Grande's break-up anthem debuted at Number 1 on the Billboard chart, her first chart-topping single. The song, which namechecks ex-boyfriends Pete Davidson and Mac Miller, was tweeted about over a million times upon its release, many of which were the hilarious "love, patience, pain" meme attached to the single.

The FADER has contacted Spotify for comment.
