Darkside have shared "Ecdysis!," a previously unreleased single recorded during the sessions for their July 2021 album, Spiral. That LP came eight years after the duo of Chilean producer/vocalist Nicolás Jaar and North American multi-instrumentalist Dave Harrington released their collaborative full-length debut, 2013's Psychic. They formed its foundation in 2018, when they sequestered themselves in a small house in Flemington, New Jersey and made a song a day.

"Ecdysis!" didn't make Spiral's final tracklist, which makes sense: The rambling, six-and-a-half-minute jam is a different breed from the sparser, more impressionistic songs that populate the record. But it clearly comes from the same DNA, Harrington's alien guitar tones toeing the border of Jaar's electronic world but never quite stepping across the line. For his part, Jaar alternates between a smooth, affectless tenor and a sensuous falsetto, riding close to the instrumental for the track's full duration.
