Song You Need: LustSickPuppy wants to eat you whole

“FEEDING FRENZY” is a vocal-less freakout from one of Brooklyn’s most unhinged noisemakers.

If you’ve ever watched a movie where a character is brought back to life with a shot of adrenaline, or rails an impossibly long line of cocaine, or takes a stupidly big hit of crystal meth, and then pace-runs around whatever dingy little room they’re in at time-lapse speed — or, perhaps, if you’ve ever inadvisably tried one of these things at home — you have an approximate idea of what it’s like to listen to a LustSickPuppy song.

In general, LSP achieves this critical mass of chaos through a combination of hellacious beats and cracked, unhinged vocals, rapped with the intensity of someone who has nothing to lose and everything to gain. On “FEEDING FRENZY,” however, they let their instrumental track do the talking for them (save for a sweetly spoken DJ tag at the start of the song). They launch into the heart of the music immediately, the trademark of an artist accustomed to making sub-two-minute singles.

They pivot just under halfway through the (nearly three-minute) cut, however, switching from vicious digital hardcore to a deceptively chill drum’n’bass section that stretches for longer than expected but still ends up bursting open at its seams near the end of the track to reveal the ravenous monster waiting at its center, sucking in the rest of the sounds — and you, if you’re not careful — like a puppy-shaped black hole.

“Here’s my quote: too many tabs open in my fucking brain,” LustSickPuppy told The FADER in the only artist statement accompanying their new song. “Haha, thanks.”
