Grimes is no longer signed to Columbia Records, a source at the label told Billboard. Grimes’ longtime manager Daouda Leonard later confirmed the news to the magazine. The art-pop producer and songwriter has only released two singles — “Player of Games” and “Shinigami Eyes” — since signing to the Sony-owned label in 2021. The FADER has reached out to representatives of Grimes and Columbia for independent confirmation and further comment.
On Monday (April 24), Grimes advocated on Twitter for AI music and “killing copyright.” The following day, she endorsed a contest in which producers will compete to create the best song using a generative AI that copies her voice. “This is madness but very sick,” she wrote in a quote tweet of the original post.
