L’Rain announces new album I Killed Your Dog
Taja Cheek’s third full-length project as L’Rain is due out October 13 via Mexican Summer. Its second single, “Pet Rock,” is out today.

Taja Cheek (L’Rain) has announced her third studio LP, I Killed Your Dog. The follow-up to Fatigue — The FADER’s 39th favorite album of 2021 — is due out October 13 via Mexican Summer, and its second single, “Pet Rock,” is out today.
Like the project’s first offering, “New Years UnResolution,” the new song is a highly referential experiment in popular music, reaching back to the early aughts for sonic touchstones such as The Strokes, and further, to the dad rock bands Cheek never listened to as a child. Like much of her work, its blissed-out sound belies a sinister theme lurking just beneath its surface.

“The song is based around an old story I’d been told about a woman who was riding the train but looked strange, and the reader eventually figures out that she’s dead, with glasses on, being propped up by the people that seem to have harmed her,” Cheek explains. “As a lifelong collector of tchotchkes, the music video is based on a concept I came up with featuring miniatures.”
