It's barely 5 p.m. and the first celebrities have already hit the red carpet (well, this year it's a starry blue) for the 2025 Met Gala — including Teyana Taylor in what might be the earliest contender for best dressed this year.
The singer and dancer wore an intricate custom Marc Jacobs ensemble that looked like it was pulled straight from a historical period piece. Consisting of a red, floor-length, zoot suit-inspired cape and coat, multi-piece striped suit, a plumed red hat, and ruby cane, the fit was topped with a durag hidden underneath the cap. The tailoring was, as expected, impeccable.
This year's theme is centered around tailoring, specifically the historical legacy of Black menswear tailoring. "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style" is set to showcase the impact and influence of Black dandyism, an aesthetic that "poses a challenge to or a transcendence of social and cultural hierarchies," writes curator Monica L. Miller.
