Pharrell Makes “Pacifist” Bulletproof Jacket For Moncler

The first picture from Pharrell’s new collection for Moncler were released into the internet wild today, by WWD. He’s designed what’s been dubbed the “pacifist” bulletproof jacket, a bodywarmer lined with sweet and serene rainforest images, a series of photos that were shot by Japanese artist Keita Sugiura. This entire collection is, in fact, made from a special environmentally sound fabric, spun from recycled plastic bottles by a company called Bionic, which incidentally happens to be controlled by the man himself. The fact that Pharrell is getting all green and tree-huggy with age actually makes us feel fuzzy and warm right down to our recycled Birkis.

Killa steps in looking like Rasheed Wallace on vacation and rapping like Purple Haze printed in large type with the Brothers Thornton, but in 2009, if Pharrell’s chorus and lazy horns are the most exciting thing about a Clipse and Cam collabo, you can’t help but shed a lone coke-flavored tear. Directed by Rik Cordero. Til The Casket Drops is out on December 6th.

I'm Good

The first Clipse albums got serious FADER rotation, but especially Hell Hath No Fury, based on the brick-like density of tracks like “Ride Around Shining” and (from the Barbershop 2 soundtrack!) “Pussy”. Not that there were not lithe moments like “I’m Good” on either, but our expectations are ridiculously high and it felt initially too easy. But maybe it’s time to open our hearts and let a little Clipse shine in. Because really, it looks sweet to drive around in a black BMW convertible and have a pool party on the roof of The Standard or wherever chilling in cardigans and expensive sunglasses with a bunch of models. Maybe this song is alright, actually.

We’ll admit to being more than a little skeptical when Clipse said ’Til The Casket Drops wouldn’t be the all-Neptunes affair their prior albums had been, but having now heard three songs and two of them being Neptunes-produced, either our skepticism was well-founded or they were bullshitting. Regardless, we posted tagged up version of this a couple weeks ago, but this is the official jam. Might we also suggest Clipse hand Ryan Leslie a dusty check for the “Something That I Like” beat that Pusha recently guested on? Judging by history, that song won’t be on a Leslie album until 2017.

The best thing about the picture above is how Pusha matched his watch to Rick Rubin’s scarf and Malice matched his sweatshirt to Rubin’s psychotic hair foliage. THAT is a collaboration, people. Not to be outdone, Pharrell jumps on the hook for this misleadingly breezy Neptunes-produced follow-up to Clipse’s first ’Til the Casket Drops single “Kinda Like A Big Deal”.

Freeload: Fam-Lay f. Pharrell, “Get That Work Up”

It would be truly ironic if FADER favorite Fam-Lay finally got an album out because Pharrell squeezed a rocked up version of an old song into Fast & Furious. It seems like it would’ve been a lot easier to just listen to us when we told you he was a killer two years ago, Record Industry. Then again, what are we talking about? This song was sent to us in an email that seemingly is promoting Fam-Lay’s Twitter and blog and not much else. Which is fine because that’s where we found this clip of his new web series “Boots & Wigs,” in which he will apparently dance around in women’s bathrooms and pose next to women’s boots. The man is a good idea factory! Somebody pay him for it.

Video: Pitbull f. Pharrell, “Blanco”

Looking at the the tracklist for the Fast & Furious soundtrack, released on Star Trak this week, it’s not hard to imagine Pharrell and Chad sitting on their dirtbikes laughing about all the money they got for what appears to be a lot of leftovers—we wrote about Fam-Lay’s (now Shark City Click) “Head Bust” in early 2007! But then we realized none of this stuff ever actually saw the light of day on an actual release, so maybe it’s not so insidious after all. Plus, not only does the soundtrack represent for a lot of the reggaeton/Latino artists we’ve had in the magazine, a couple of them, Don Omar and Tego Calderon are in the movie…acting…probably better than some of the actors. Wouldn’t be the first time! Here’s the video for Pharrell and Pitbull’s single off the soundtrack, one of FIVE Pit tracks on there, in which they offer some POV gentleman clubbing.

Lil Wayne’s Hip Hop Ponzi Scheme

Is Wayne’s auto-tuned voice and unhinged mindstate the rap version of Bernie Madoff’s friendly smile and upturned brow? Can this dude convince rutted superstar producers to reinvest in order to make himself rich? Judging by his most recent high-profile collaborations with Swizzy and Pharrell, the answer is yes. Swizz may not be venturing too far away from the Bronx bounce that made him a lot of money over the last few years, but the Space sample on “Up In The Club” is so cornily awesome you can’t really fault him for trying. And on the just leaked “Yes” with Pharrell, Rockstar P strays intensely close to dubstep, as pointed out by our good buddy Catchdubs, with a little Bomb Squad thrown in for fun. We know, of course, that these beats were probably not made with Wayne attached, but maybe just Wayne’s existence in the universe is making people want to do things they normally wouldn’t.

Freeload: The Clipse, Road to Till the Casket Drops Mixtape + “Still Got It 4 Cheap”

We love the Clipse enough to conveniently forget about their thrown together Re-Up Gang album on Koch. We’re also willing to forget that this new mixtape was put out by another magazine since Road to Till the Casket Drops promotes not only the Clipse’s upcoming album but their clothing line Play Cloths, as well, and that other magazine is run by a clothing maker. All this aside, Clipse has given us enough hot songs that we’ll check for them on good faith alone for at least the next five years and there are piles upon piles of quotables here. And since we took so long in putting it up, Father Time aka Clinton Sparks has rewarded us with a brand brand new track off his 2009 mixtape Get Familiar which enlists the Pusha, Malice and Pharrell.

Video: Common f. Pharrell, “Universal Mind Control”

Common’s new album Universal Mind Control was, according to the man himself, recorded for summertime listening and good times but has since seen its release date pushed from June to September to November 11th. That ain’t summertime and some would argue these aren’t the goodest of times. However, now that we’re actually getting into the ice cold techno of the eponymous first single and Hype’s Minority Report/I, Robot-ish video, we gotta say it might be for the best that this is coming out when the weather traps people in cars and clubs and we’re all gonna have to work like machines to stay in business.
