The bubbly, independent bookstore backdrop of NPR's Tiny Desk Concert stage isn't the vibe that immediately comes to mind when I hear the music of The Smile. With Sons of Kemet drummer Tom Skinner in tow, Thom Yorke and Johnny Greenwood created a compelling Radiohead tributary in The Smile and their debut album A Light for Attracting Attention. That is to say, it's a great project to brood to. And yet, The Smile's performance on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert, uploaded on Tuesday, is another fine addition to the ongoing series. Three songs from Attracting Attention are played: "Pana-vision," "The Smoke," and "Skrting On the Surface." ("Thin Thing," one of our favorite songs of the year, was unfortunately overlooked). If you weren't able to grab tickets for The Smile's recent North American tour, this bite-sized show is a nice substitute.
