Bun B began his video emphasizing Megan's importance to the city of Houston. "I'm from Houston," he said, "if somebody had done something to Megan in this city, we woulda rode." His own acquaintance with Tory Lanez and his team, Bun B said, could not prevent him from speaking out. “I know Tory," Bun said, "I know his manager, I know all of ‘em. Fuck all that, though. If the man on drugs, get him some goddamn rehab. If the man got mental health issues, get him some therapy. But you not just gon’ sit here and shoot this girl, and we not say nothin. This shit not real.”

An especially salient part of Bun B's statement came when he addressed the public's response to the shooting and perceived racist double standards. "Nobody's talking about it because it's a Black woman... Put your hands on Alyssa Milano and see what happens. Put your hands on Lady Gaga and see how quick they lock your ass up... We love Megan in Houston, we brag about her... Nobody's saying nothing when [Megan] gets shot. We got memes, we got jokes, we got all that shit. Fuck that shit."

He continued by criticizing a lack of coverage of the shooting, both nationally and locally: "[The shooting] supposed to be on the 5:30 national news... I'm in Houston. I don't think they ever talked about it on the local news here."

According to Bun B, Megan's initial defense of Tory Lanez — Megan revealed last week that she did not tell police at the scene that Lanez had a gun out of fear he would be shot — is part of a long tradition of Black women standing up for Black men. "God bless our Black women," Bun B said, "'cause Black woman be knowing Black men be in the wrong and still be standing up for them. Why? Because they know what white people do to Black men... Black women know how the legal system will treat Black men, they know how white America will treat Black men... They put themselves in front of us constantly. You look at any civil rights movement... Black women [are] on the front lines."
