Kanye dropped out of the festival unexpectedly on Monday.

The Weeknd and Swedish House Mafia will replace Kanye West as the Sunday headliner at Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in April. They'll join Harry Styles and Billie Eilish as the festival's 2022 headliners, performing in Ye's scheduled slot on both weekends of the festival, which runs from April 15–24 this year. Swedish House Mafia were already announced as performers at Coachella 2022, though their headlining spot marks an upgrade.

The news of West pulling out of the festival was quickly covered by Page Six, TMZ, and Variety. The revelation also erased the possibility of a Travis Scott appearance at the festival, which was revived after Ye announced in February that he intended to bring Scott on stage. The festival's organizers dropped Scott from the lineup in December after 10 fans were killed in a crowd surge at his Astroworld 2021 performance the previous month. Last month, Kanye was suspended from Instagram for 24 hours after making threatening posts regarding his ex-wife Kim Kardashian, her new boyfriend Pete Davidson, and aging comedian D.L. Hughley.

Ye took home two awards at the 64th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony Sunday night: Best Melodic Rap Performance for "Hurricane" featuring the Weeknd and Lil Baby, and Best Rap Song for "Jail" featuring Jay-Z, which he wrote along with Jay, Dwayne Abernathy, Jr., Raul Cubina, Michael Dean, Charles M. Njapa, Sean Solymar, and Mark Williams. Both tracks come from his 2021 album Donda, which was nominated for Album of the Year and Best Rap Album but lost out to Jon Batiste's We Are and Tyler, the Creator's Call Me If You Get Lost, respectively.
