boygenius, The Record
Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, and Julien Baker — three hugely acclaimed indie rock singer-songwriters — team up for their first full-length as boygenius, a trio that debuted in 2018 with an eponymous EP and tour. Based on that history alone, the record would have been one of the most sought-after releases of the year, but boygenius have boosted anticipation with great singles like “$20,” “Emily I’m Sorry,” “True Blue,“ and “Stronghold.”
Tyler, The Creator, Call Me If You Get Lost: The Estate Sale
For the first time in his career, Tyler, The Creator is sharing a deluxe edition of a full-length project. The Estate Sale adds new tracks to Call Me If You Get Lost, Tyler's 2021 which nabbed a Grammy for Best Rap Album and was our second favorite album of the year. This week, we've heard the songs "Dogtooth" and "Sorry Not Sorry."
A star and foundational figure of Nigeria's rise as a force in Western popular music, Davido's return comes in the shadow of immense personal tragedy. “There is a time for everything," Davido writes in a press statement. "A time to grieve and a time to heal. A time to laugh and a time to dance. A time to speak and a time for silence. I do all of this in my own time, grounded by your love which is TIMELESS.”
Luh Tyler, My Vision
A precociously charismatic rapper at just 17 years old, Tallahassee's Luh Tyler shares his debut mixtape today after just over a year of red-hot singles. The Song You Need "Can't Move Wrong" featuring Trapland Pat is on My Vision along with "Back Flippin" and "Fat Racks Pt. 2."
Chlöe, In Pieces
Beyoncé protege Chlöe Bailey releases her debut album after years of teasing and singles. She's made her ambitions clear, telling Latto during an Apple Music interview: "Beyoncé, Michael, Whitney, Mariah, Janet… That's where I want to be. So I know I have a lot of work to go because I've seen firsthand the work ethic that has gone into it. And I'm like, 'Yes, I know I work hard, but I could go even harder.'" Future, Chris Brown, and Missy Elliot feature on the album, which includes the songs "In Pieces," "Body Do," "Pray It Away," and "How Does It Feel."
B. Cool-Aid, Leather Blvd.
The third full-length collaboration from prolific artist and rapper Pink Siifu and producer Ahwlee is a family affair celebrating a new vision of neo-soul. Fousheé, Liv.e, V.C.R, DJ Harrison, Butcher Brown, Quelle Chris, and at least a dozen more join B. Cool Aid for a concept album revolving around a fictional Black utopia. Listen to them discuss the project on an episode of The FADER Interview.
NOIA is a chameleonic entity, existing most comfortably and confidently in the gaps between genres and cultures. On her debut album gisela, the Barcelona-bred, Brooklyn-based singer-producer glitches between ambient ruminations, field recordings, Rosalían flamenco-pop, and slippery electronic textures that hint at such styles as drum & bass and jungle before evaporating as quickly as they arrived. Similarly, she slides between languages, swimming through passages in Spanish, Portuguese, Catalan, and English with equal enthusiasm. Standout track "verano adentro" (a Song You Need earlier this month) exists in an especially liminal space, with NOIA riding a beat that seems to be constantly dissolving beneath her as she yearns in calm desperation for a little more time.
Alan Braxe, The Upper Cuts (2023 Edition)
The icon of French touch revisits his groundbreaking singles with Fred Falke and adds two ones. Remastered versions of classics like Stardust's "Music Sounds Better With You" are on here, as well as a remix for Britney Spears ("Anticipating") and more plush, feel-good club music.
DJ Drama, I'm Really Like That
Fresh off a Grammy win for his role as host of Tyler, The Creator's Call Me If You Get Lost, mixtape legend DJ Drama is asserting his clout in the game with a new full-length project. The features cover some of the legends whose careers Drama has boosted and fresher faces paying tribute: Lil Wayne, Lil Uzi Vert, Nipsey Husle, Jack Harlow, Lil Baby, Tyler the Creator, G Herbo, 42 Dugg, Wiz Khalifa, Roddy Rich, and more all appear.
Eddie Chacon, Sundown
Chacon's extended hiatus from music — following a megahit in the '90s with "Would I Lie To You?" as one half of Charles & Eddie — ended in 2020 with the solo album Pleasure, Joy, and Happiness, recorded with John Carroll Kirby. Hear Chacon discuss his latest project of outre-funk on The FADER Interview.
The 19th full-length from the long-running art-rock group is actually the first recorded front-to-back in a recording studio. That new workflow yielded such gems as "My Lovely Cat," a Song You Need. The band spoke with The FADER about their process for a Q&A and premiere of the track "Sit Down, Let Me Tell You A Story."
